Day5

DAY 5: Today our goal was to make it out of the canyon and up to the upper ridgeline, at a place called Warnock Corral (~6-7 miles and 4000 feet of elevation). We got a good start around 8 AM and just trucked on out of Hells Canyon. There really wasn't much wildlife to see on the way out, and the views were mostly of a forest fire that passed through 2 years previously. We eventually made it to Warnock Corral around noon or so, and found that the only thing there was a bathroom and a spring, and we could see Hat Point only a couple of miles away. We ate lunch and decided that we should just hike the ridge to Hat Point and then take off back to Portland. And so we did. On the way back we happened across the Terminal Gravity Brewery and had some excellent IPA and buffalo. On the way through the gorge there was an amazing lightning show around 11 PM, which started some wildfires that we drove past. Although it was grueling at times, it was still a sweet trip. Maybe I'll do it again...
